“SERENITY NOW”

The first thing I thought of when I saw the theme of the Weekly Photo Challenge was “Serenity Now!”…..just another one of the classic lines from the old ‘Seinfeld’ show.  Can you tell I’m a huge fan?  lol  Here’s the dialogue between George & his father, Frank:    F – “Serenity now!  Serenity now!”  G – “What is that?”  F – “The doctor gave me a relaxation cassette. When my blood pressure gets too high, the man on the tape tells me to say ‘serenity  now!'”  G – “Are you supposed to yell it?”  F – “The man on the tape wasn’t specific.”  LMBO  Kind of like The Honeymooners episode when Ralph was told by his doctor to say “Pins and needles, needles and pins, a happy man is a man that grins” when he found himself getting angry!  Another of my favorites by the way.  🙂

Anyway, here’s my photographic interpretation of  “Serenity.”

75 – O SOLE MIO

This is an old record (dated September 22, 1903 – Victor Talking Machine Co., Camden, NJ) of Enrico Caruso singing O Sole Mio….you can hear him singing it HERE.  The video is not of the record being played on my gramophone but it’s as close as I could get. I wish you could hear it played on the one I have, with all it’s crackling and scratches. It might not sound like it would be, but it’s amazing!  “His Master’s Voice” 🙂  EDIT: Serendipity??? I just discovered that today is Caruso’s birthday. Now that’s weird!

361 – WINTER HAS ME IN ITS GRIP

These icicles outside my bathroom window kind of remind me of the bars on a jail cell!  As much as I complain about the snow….I actually like it…. not the ice chopping and shoveling part though, but Don McLean seems to be having a hard time with winter.  Unfortunately, I did not even have to convert this one to black and white….that’s just the kind of day it was. 😦

210 – CHE GELIDA MANINA

This just so happens to be my favorite aria from my favorite opera….La Boheme (The Bohemians.)  And as for Pavarotti, well he was just the best…the world lost a treasure when he passed. Anyway, we went to the Met to see it for my birthday some years ago and it was so far beyond fabulous!!!  I dug out the program from my collection as I save them all.  🙂  So here’s my interpretation for this theme.  The aria can be found HERE with many thanks to Ivor for all the time, creativity and effort he put into this year’s theme list. Yeoman’s work Ivor!!!  As an aside, have you heard of the Broadway rock musical “Rent?”  Well, it is based on La Boheme but there is absolutely no comparison in my opinion.  Just a heavily watered-down wanna be!!!  ; )

OLD

This is one of the views into the old, abandoned Hinchliffe Stadium which can be found HERE in a previous post.  It’s now going to be part of the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park.  When we were there the other day, they had already begun cutting down some of the many trees that had grown wild there and whitewashed the entire outside of the stadium, getting rid of all the graffiti. I have a feeling that won’t last very long though.

TRADITION

Look, up in the sky, it’s a bird…it’s a plane….it’s Snoopy & Woodstock!  So these photos represent the Macy’s annual tradition of testing their balloons to make sure they’re good to go for the Thanksgiving Day Parade.  While Snoopy has appeared in other parades, this particular version featuring Woodstock is new.  So cute! 🙂

DOWNWARD

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN!

Right about this time, every year, Macy’s ‘test drives’ the new balloon additions for their Thanksgiving Day Parade.  This one is Toothless from “How to Train Your Dragon.”  You’ll find a clip from the Dreamworks movie below…..I had never heard of this character before and for some reason he’s facing downward, although I have no idea why and he’s HUGE!  Perfect for The Challenge though!  The others will also be making their appearance on Pixelicious…….stay tuned!
